Fees

Agreed upfront. Paid monthly. Calls included.

For accounting, GST and tax, Propeller Accounting is subscription based. You know what it costs before we start, it is spread across twelve months, and picking up the phone never generates an invoice.

The usual wayOne bill, once a year

Nothing for eleven months, then a number you did not budget for - and a quiet reluctance to ring your accountant in between.

PropellerTwelve equal instalments

Known upfront, spread across the year, and it includes the phone calls.

Why there are no package prices

We don’t advertise package prices, because the reality is that this is a marketing gimmick. Every client is unique with different needs, so you cannot categorise clients into three or four fee groups.

For each client we review their specific requirements and the work involved, determine a tailored and cost-effective fee package, and then provide this as a no-obligation fee quote. That becomes the monthly subscription.

How it works

Four things you can rely on

  • Your fees are known upfront, so there are no surprises. We quote before anything starts, and the quote is based on your business rather than on a tier.
  • They are payable in monthly instalments, spreading the cashflow burden over twelve months instead of landing in the month your accounts are finished.
  • Fees include phone calls and ad-hoc queries to do with your accounting, GST and tax, so there are no extra charges. We encourage our clients to contact us whenever they like. The expectation of a separate invoice should never be a barrier to effective communication between a client and their accountant - so you won’t get one.
  • For any services beyond that, we discuss and agree the scope and the fee in advance. A one-off piece of work - a valuation, a funding application, a due diligence - is quoted and agreed before it starts, never billed after.
Getting a quote

What we need from you to quote

Not much, and none of it is a commitment. Enough to understand the shape of the business and the work involved:

  • What the business does, and roughly what it turns over
  • The structure - sole trader, partnership, company, trust, or a combination
  • Whether you are GST registered, and how often you file
  • Whether you have staff, and who does the payroll now
  • What software you are on, if any
  • What is not working with your current arrangement

Most of that comes out in one conversation. The quote is free and there is no obligation attached to it.

“The expectation of a separate invoice should never be a barrier to effective communication between client and accountant - so you won’t get one.”

Common questions

About fees

Is the subscription a fixed price for the year?

Yes. We agree the scope and the fee upfront and that is what you pay, in twelve instalments. If the business changes enough that the scope has to change - you take on staff, you buy something, you start filing GST more often - we talk about it and agree the new figure before the work happens.

What happens if I ring you a lot?

Nothing. Phone calls and ad-hoc queries about your accounting, GST and tax are included, and that is deliberate: an accountant you avoid ringing is not much use. The only work that is charged separately is work we have agreed separately.

Do I pay for the first conversation?

No. The initial conversation and the fee quote are free and carry no obligation. If we are not the right fit for your business we will say so.

Is the fee tax deductible?

Accounting fees incurred in running your business are generally deductible, but how that applies depends on your structure and your circumstances - which is exactly the kind of question the subscription covers, so ask.

Can I pay annually instead?

The subscription is designed to be monthly, because spreading it is the point. If your circumstances make that awkward, raise it in the first conversation.

Let’s get your business moving

A no-obligation conversation about where the business is at and what it actually needs. If we are not the right fit, we will say so.
